I Think It’s Gonna Rain Today /
Je parie qu’aujourd’hui il va faire gris
I Think It’s Gonna Rain Today: there is a grin in this song, that of the man who mocks the displays of good feelings and superficial smiles; that of the man who suffers from seeing around him only falsehood and facades, only ugliness and pettiness that nothing can ever overcome. I had to convey in French the particular state of mind described by this song, where we find gloom, cynicism, dejection all at the same time. I was able to stay as close as possible to the original text, helped by a prosody that naturally lent itself to the transition to French.
I Think It’s Going to Rain Today
Written by
Randy Newman
Broken windows and empty hallways / A pale dead moon in the sky streaked with grey / Human kindness is overflowing / And I think it's going to rain today
Scarecrows dressed in the latest styles / With frozen smiles to chase love away / Human kindness is overflowing / And I think it's going to rain today
Lonely, lonely / Tin can at my feet / Think I'll kick it down the street / That’s the way to treat a friend
Bright before me the signs implore me / To help the needy and show them the way / Human kindness is overflowing / And I think it's going to rain today

I Bet It’s Going to Be One of Those Grey Days
Translation of the
French adaptation
Broken windows, empty buildings / Pale moon devoured by the night / How good it feels to love your neighbour / I bet it's going to one of those grey days
Pseudo-chic trendy outfits / And people parade, and people smile at each other / How good it feels to love your neighbour / I bet it's going to be one of those grey days
I'm alone, so alone / An empty can / I give it my best kick / The price of friendship
Straight ahead in neon letters / "Help the less fortunate" / How good it feels to love your neighbour / I bet it's going to be one of those grey days
