Sail to the moon: the theme of the song is the misstep, the word too many, which risks ruining a relationship forever; it’s about the other’s omnipotence, who, at their whim and pleasure, can decree banishment or grant forgiveness; it’s about being – or feeling – cast out by the other and yearning for their clemency. I wanted to convey all of this, not without resorting, as in the original text, to a metaphor that captures the infinite distance that is sometimes created in a fraction of a second between two people: the boat that sails towards the moon becomes in French a space probe ejected from the orbital station, propelled towards unknown worlds.
