All Is Full of Love / La vie n’est qu’une fête

All Is Full of Love: this song offers words of consolation and is also wonder at the world. It reminds me of the pantheistic philosophy according to which God is not a transcendent principle, creator of the world, but an immanent principle that is expressed by every part of the world; thus, love, the first principle, which is everywhere, in everything, which permeates everything.

La vie est une fête (life is a celebration) : I stayed very close to the original text, but the word “love” is no longer present. This was because, like in English, I needed a word with a single syllable. I opted for « joie »/“joy”, then « fête »/“celebration”: the force of love evoked in this song is the force of life, an elemental exultation, at the origin of everything, a source from which we can always reconnect with and draw from infinitely.

All is Full of Love

Written by

Bjork Gudmundsdottir

You’ll be given love / You’ll be taken care of / You’ll be given love / You have to trust it

Maybe not from the sources / You have poured yours / Maybe not from the directions / You are staring at

Twist your head around / It’s all around you / All is full of love / All around you

All is full of love / You just ain’t receiving / All is full of love / Your phone is off the hook / All is full of love / Your doors are all shut / [ sung in Icelandic ] When the sun comes and breathes into me

All Is full of love

All Is full of love

All Is full of love

All Is full of love

All Is full of love

La vie est une fête

Life’s a Celebration

Translation of the

French adaptation

Nothing’s that grim / Lead turns to gold / Nothing’s that grim / One more effort

You’ve got to take another step / A leap of faith / Storms always pass / The sky clears

Look around you / All is not without joy / Nothing around you / Is without joy

Life’s a celebration / Unbearable and beautiful / Life’s a celebration / Tragic and thrilling / Life’s a celebration / Devoid of sense

But whatever you think of it

Life’s a celebration

Life’s a celebration

Life’s a celebration

Life’s a celebration

Life’s a celebration…
