Colours /
Les garnisons de mon coeur
Colours: imagination to the rescue, inventing colours when there’s nothing but greyness around you; and suddenly, as if by a magical power of visualization, fantasy becomes reality, and you see a ray of sunshine brighten up the greyness of everyday life.
Les garnisons de mon cœur (the garrisons of my heart) : in my adaptation work, I came to shift the theme of the song while respecting its dynamics. The greyness of everyday life becomes a grey gaze turned inward, a depreciation of oneself that leads to a warning when someone attempts a romantic approach: « Prends garde à toi si tu m’aimes »/“Beware if you love me”. But a ray of sunshine pierces through all the self-deprecating strategies as soon as one can no longer take that warning seriously and one feels ready, once again, to take the risk of loving. The garrisons that protected the heart have fallen.

Looking out from day to day / At a dirty old expensive motorway / I dream of colours when all around is grey / I dream of colours and sunlight
There's a way I'd rather be / Than the person who pretends that he is me / I dream of colours to be what I would be / I dream of colours, it inspires me
Suddenly, a shaft of light breaks through / Illuminates the room / When all around was darkened /
And tender hues of light and shade / It paints a picture of an / Altogether brighter day /
Looking out from day to day / At a dirty old expensive motorway / I dream of colours when all around is grey / I dream of colours… and sunlight

The Garrisons of My Heart
Translation of the
French adaptation
I spend my life scaring myself / Always making things more complicated than they are / I could fill a bathtub with my tears / Beware if you love me
I pretended to be indifferent / I did my best to resist your romantic advances / Without seeing that one by one my defenses were falling / What a beautiful, vast problem
Today I abdicate, I confess / I just can’t believe how you bypass / The garrisons of my heart

Love, I turned my back on it / Love, I know it, tomorrow again / Will tear my skin off
I spend my life scaring myself / Always making things more complicated than they are / I could fill a bathtub with my tears / Beware because… I love you
