Come Rain or Come Shine / Qui aime comme j’aime

Come Rain or Come Shine: a joyful, confident declaration of love, expressing an unshakeable faith in the strength and reciprocity of feeling. What was at first a flirtation, nothing more than a tease, something that could not have gone any further, turns into a love as deep as a riverbed and as solid as a mountain.

Qui aime comme j’aime (who loves as I love) : due to the constraints of prosody, I had to move away from the metaphor of rain and sunshine. Thus, “come rain or come shine” became in French « qui aime comme j’aime »/“who loves as I love”, the central theme around which I wove another declaration of love just as devoid of solemnity, indifferent to life’s trials and tribulations, and imbued with the confidence that we can only gain by betting on love, by surrendering to it without reservation.

Come Rain or Come Shine

Written by

Harold Arlen & Johnny Mercer

I’m gonna love you like nobody’s loved you / Come rain or come shine / High as a mountain and deep as a river / Come rain or come shine

I guess when you met me / It was just one of those things / But don’t you ever bet me / ‘Cause I’m gonna be true if you let me

You’re gonna love me like nobody’s loved me / Come rain or come shine / Happy together, unhappy together / And won’t that be fine

Days may be cloudy or sunny / We’re in or we’re out of the money / But I’m with you always / I’m with you rain or shine

Qui aime comme j’aime

French kiss by

On s’aime quand même

Ose dire que c’est pour la vie / Ne veux-tu pas en faire le pari ? / Pour moi, j’y compte bien / Si tu m’aimes comme je t’aime

Who Loves As I Love

Translation of the

French adaptation

He who loves has no clue why / He who loves as I love / He who loves gives it all, it’s his only law / He who loves as I love

The day you smiled at me / You believed it would just be a fling / But see, how it lasts! / Please don’t look so surprised

He who loves pricks himself, roses have their thorns / So what? It’s part of the game! / What are the little things that offend, that sadden? / We still love each other

Dare to say that it’s for life / Don’t you want to bet on it? / As for me, I'm counting on it / If you love me like I love you
