Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars (Corcovado) /
Et que rien d’autre n’existe

Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars: a moment of tranquility, a few guitar chords, having your loved one close to you, the one who heals all sadness, fully realizing that life gives everything when it offers this peaceful happiness, desiring nothing more than that.

Et que rien d’autre n’existe (and nothing else must exist) : a couple dances, embracing another moment of tranquility, of romantic happiness; one of the partners stops, hesitates, overwhelmed by a powerful emotion, tears run down their cheek; but these are tears of joy, and the bodies re-embrace and the dance resumes. I staged the same emotion differently in French: discovering, accepting, and recognizing that life gives everything when it offers such moments of grace, indolence, peace, and love.

Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars (Corcovado)

Written by

Antonio Carlos Jobim

English lyrics by Gene Lees

Quiet nights of quiet stars / Quiet chords from my guitar / Floating on the silence that surrounds us

Quiet thoughts and quiet dreams / Quiet walks by quiet streams / And a window looking on the mountains and the sea, how lovely

This is where I want to be / Here with you so close to me / Until the final flicker of life’s ember

I who was lost and lonely / Believing life was only / A bitter tragic joke, have found with you / The meaning of existence, oh my love

I who was lost and lonely / Believing life was only / A bitter tragic joke, have found with you / The meaning of existence, oh my love

Et que rien d’autre n’existe

And Nothing Else Must Exist

Translation of the

French adaptation

You stop, you hesitate / Follow my body and follow the rhythm / Let's dance, nothing else exists

It's all dance, it's all just dance / Indolence and elegance / Neither noise nor fury can invite themselves into the dance

The clouds don’t warn / May the fear of missteps / Never leave a shadow on your face

Lay your neck on my neck / Press your cheek to my cheek / Our bodies become one – wait, are you crying? / Oh, but they are tears... of joy

Lay your neck on my neck / Press your cheek to my cheek / Our bodies become one - it's okay that you're crying / It's just the overflow... of happiness
