At Last / Plus rien

At Last: it’s love finally found, the dream of love come true; it is the blessed end of waiting, an expression of joy, calm, and faith in the future.

Plus rien (from now on) : I translated “at last” by « plus rien »/“nothing more/nothing else”, which is to be understood here as: “from now on”. It’s another way of marking a temporal delimitation and of celebrating the moment from which everything changes for the better. It’s the same way of embracing the future, of exclaiming “I am fulfilled”, of singing about the happiness of experiencing a love so strong that it gives everything, that it surpasses everything.

At Last

Written by

Harry Warren & Mack Gordon

At last / My love has come along / My lonely days are over / And life is like a song

Ooh, at last / The skies above are blue / Well, my heart was wrapped up in clover / The night I looked at you

I found a dream that I could speak to / A dream that I could call my own / I found a thrill to press my cheek to / A thrill that I have never known

You smile, you smile / Oh, and then the spell was cast / And here we are in heaven  / For you are mine at last

Plus rien

From Now On

Translation of the

French adaptation

From now on / Nothing could spoil my happiness / I’ll always have a thousand dreams / I greet them from far away

From now on / Nothing should undermine my heart / There’s a lull in the storm / I become serene again

Is life but a whirlwind? / Is life just a battle? / By feeding too many false ambitions / I was drifting far away from you

Love imposes / Its sweet, unyielding law / For just one day I miss you / And there’s nothing left
